Fluorescent Devices
Fluorescent weathering test devices utilize fluorescent UV lamps with the same form factor and electrical characteristics as those used for residential and commercial lighting. However, the spectrum of fluorescent UV lamps used in weathering testing is confined to the ultraviolet region at 351nm and below. Weathering tests in fluorescent devices usually employ alternating exposure cycles of fluorescent ultraviolet radiation and condensation (without UV radiation), and optional specimen spray. Fluorescent weathering testing is typically conducted to meet certain weathering standards, and is considered generally effective for material screening and rank comparisons of base resin formulas for physical performance (such as cracking, peeling, delamination, etc.). It should be noted however that fluorescent weathering testing has limitations. Unrealistic match to the solar spectrum, absence of humidity control, and lack of ambient temperature control make fluorescent devices generally unsuitable for material service life prediction or correlation to outdoor weathering exposures.
UVTest Fluorescent/UV InstrumentThe Atlas UVTest is designed for economical weathering testing with the sophistication of Atlas' 90 years of weathering expertise. Innovative design features improve test reproducibility and lower operating costs while testing a variety of materials for their reaction to UV, temperature and moisture.
